All Souls Day
Today is All Souls Day, when the Latino culture celebrate those who have passed away. The Latino culture believes that death has three levels, the passing of the body, the passing of the soul and keeping the soul alive by remembrance. The Mexican culture believe that an alter should be built to honor your loved one placing their favorite foods, marigolds, candles and picture of the one to keep their spirit alive and happy. This year, Jennifer and I did an art show for Dia de los Muertos, Jennifer did a piece to honor her dad. She used pictures when he was young and healthy and was a devoted father and husband. After lots of bad memories she chooses to remember the good times. I do a piece to honor my mom. I miss her still every minute each day. I am not Mexican but I love the honoring of your loved ones. Tonight I light a candle and say a prayer for Julio, mom and Armando. I pray their souls are at peace and hope they know I love them and always will.
